빈칸 뒤의 명사가 단수인지, 복수인지, 불가산인지 보세요. each/every/another/either/neither + 단수 명사; many/few/several/both/a number of + 복수 명사; much/little/an amount of + 불가산 명사.
  2. 뒤에 of the/my/these가 있으면 of와 함께 쓸 수 있는 수량 표현을 고르세요: each of, all of, most of, many of, some of, none of, either of. Every와 another는 of와 직접 결합하지 않습니다.
  3. 동사를 확인하세요: each/every + N → 단수 동사; a number of + 복수 N → 복수; the number of + N → 단수; all/most/some of + N → of 뒤의 명사에 맞춤.
  4. other / others / another / the other 문제는 단골입니다.

수량 표현(quantifier)은 명사 앞에 와서 수나 양을 나타내는 말입니다: many, much, few, little, some, any, each, every, all, most, several, a number of, a great deal of.

much와 many는 어떻게 다른가요?

many는 가산 복수 명사(many clients, many invoices)와, much는 불가산 명사(much time, much equipment)와 씁니다. 긍정문이라도 too, so, as, very 뒤에서는 much를 씁니다: too much paperwork.

few와 a few, little과 a little은 어떻게 다른가요?

We have a few seats left, so you can still register(아직 자리가 있음)와 Few people registered, so the event was canceled(사람이 너무 적음).

Each employee has a locker, Every employee has a locker. each는 개별 하나하나를 강조하며 두 사람/두 개로 이루어진 그룹에도 쓸 수 있고, every는 그룹 전체(셋 이상)를 강조합니다. of와 바로 쓸 수 있는 것은 each뿐입니다: each of the employees. every를 쓰려면 every one of the employees라고 해야 합니다.

a number of와 the number of 뒤의 동사는 어떻게 일치시키나요?

A number of employees have signed up. the number of + 복수 명사는 "~의 수"라는 뜻으로, 주어가 number이므로 동사는 단수입니다: The number of employees has doubled.

another, other, the other는 어떻게 다른가요?

another(다른 하나, 하나 더)는 단수 명사와 씁니다: another meeting. other(다른 것들)는 복수 명사나 불가산 명사와 씁니다: other suppliers. the other는 정해진 나머지 하나 또는 나머지 전부를 가리킵니다: the other printer, the other candidates. others와 the others는 대명사로, 뒤에 명사 없이 혼자 쓰입니다.
